Back in the old days, people lined up outside of Disney's Hollywood Studios before park opening and made the very fast walk to Pixar Place to grab a paper FastPass for Toy Story Mania because it was so popular. That's what we would do! But we'd still recommend arriving at park opening if you'd like to join a Boarding Group to ride Star Wars : Rise of the Resistance.
Once you've arrived in the park and hopfully gotten your Boarding Group for Rise of the Resistance , you can head to Slinky for the lowest waits of the day. If you have a FastPass for a later time, or aren't an "Avatar" fan, rope drop is a prime time to head to Expedition Everest or Kilimanjaro Safaris for low waits.
Decide what works best for your family and plan accordingly. All park-goers have the option of obtaining additional FastPasses. Once you've used your first three or the reservation windows have passed , you can visit an in-park kiosk or use your mobile device and make an additional reservation in My Disney Experience. After you use that reservation, you are free to make another. Once you're into your additional FastPasses, the tier restrictions no longer apply though keep in mind that these will be subject to availability.
While this is still a good way to save time, you will want to make your first three reservations your highest priority attractions. You can do this using the website, mobile app or at a kiosk.
If you'll have a tadpole with you who isn't tall enough for all of the rides, you can use Rider Switch so that no one has to miss out. Let's say you're a party of four and three of you want to ride Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. Your youngest child can't or doesn't want to ride.
You would get a Rider Switch pass, and you could wait for your husband and then ride along with your older child again while he waited. Or, you could come back with your pass later and ride. The Rider Switch pass is good for up to three people. I know that was a ton of information. We hope that these Disney World FastPass tips will help you on your next trip! Have Disney World FastPass tips to share? Leave them in the comments.
We dutifully got up early this morning to select our fast passes for Disney studios April 9. Sadly, there were NO available tier 1 selections available, and a couple of high demand tiers 2 attractions were unavailable as well.
We did get tower of terror and star tours reserved though. We are planning a trip to Disney World. I understand making my three fastpass selections ahead of time but my questions is; if one of most popular rides mine train has only a fastpass selection for late in the evening pm left, should I choose that as one of my first three?
Knowing that I will not get to make anymore fastpass selections until that time has passed? Or should i just make three for in the morning and keep trying throughout the day?
It really depends on what you'd like to prioritize! But if you want to get on as many rides as possible by getting additional FastPasses after you've used up your initial three and you'd be OK with potentially missing the popular ride or using the standby line , we'd say go with that approach.
Love your site! We are planning a trip for 5 in May. I was told by two disney cast members that if I want to do a Child Swap, I will have to make FP for me, husband, and two older girls not just the first party riders. My husband and girls would go first and then I could ride with the girls This seems to contradict what I've read above and on other sites.
Disney said they are making changes And in that case I wouldn't be making any FP reservations for my 3 yr old. Will this screw her up later on in the day when we are adding FP after using our 3?
Thanks so much - we're glad you hopped by! Rider Switch service can be used with or without FastPass; if you would like to combine Rider Switch with FastPass, then you are correct that everyone wishing to ride would need to have a FastPass. If you'd prefer to ride standby, you'd let a ride attendant know that you'd like to use Rider Switch service and the first party would wait in the standby line to ride; the second party would receive a digital pass in My Disney Experience to return generally the current ride wait time minus ten minutes, with a one-hour return window.
This should not impact her ability to get FastPasses later on in the day once the rest of your party's initial three have been used, but she may need to follow the park's tiering system 1 Tier 1 and 2 Tier 2, for example before she is able to make another Tier 1 reservation.
Hope this helps! Hii, me and my girlfriend are planning to visit disney world in may for 2 days If you do have park hopper tickets, we'd recommend combining Magic Kingdom with Epcot using the monorail , and Disney's Hollywood Studios and Disney's Animal Kingdom the next day using the bus if hitting all parks is important.
If not, we'd suggest leaving Epcot out and spending a whole day at Magic Kingdom since there are more attractions available there. Hi, we're planning a 7 day park hopper trip from October 20thth, as it seemed like the lowest volume time that we personally can attend with job restrictions. As a generally anxious person, this is awful, since now I'm going to be stressing for MONTHS before these opportunities are even open to me.
How much should I actually worry about fastpasses being completely booked on the day they become available, for the days we've chosen? And same for reservations for restaurants. We toadally feel you! We know it's easy for us to say, but try not to stress!
It is a lot of planning, but believe us when we say you are going to have a fantastic time no matter which dining reservations or FastPasses you're able to nab ahead of time!
We've had trips where we've been able to grab all of our must-dos, and some where we've had some less than stellar FastPasses, but still manage to ride our favorites without too much trouble. Prior to our booking window, we like to have our planned park for the day often based on Extra Magic Hours determined ahead of time and we make a list of our top two Tier 1 options so that we can try for a backup. If there's something we would rather not wait in line for that we didn't manage to get a FastPass for, we often plan to either rope drop or head to Extra Magic Hours to tackle that ride, where you'll find the shortest waits of the day often thirty minutes or less.
In our experience, the toughest to get will be Slinky, Flight of Passage and Mine Train, so we often rope drop those or try to hop on during Extra Magic Hours if we can't get a FastPass. We DO set an alarm to get up and try to grab FastPasses as soon as our window is open Leap goes and grabs us a fancy coffee to make it a little more "special" that our eyes are open so early ; Keep in mind that people can and do drop FastPasses and dining reservations as their trips approach, so be sure to continue to check back for cancellations, even during your trip!
Plus, once your initial three advance reservations are used, you can continue to book more, one at a time. The TL:DR is: don't fret, friend! Let us know if we can help with any other suggestions - have a great time! Were headed to disney May with a couple babies. Both parents looking to take advantage of Rider Switch would need a FastPass reservation.
So in the example you provided, Parent 1 would go from with one kiddo, hop off, and scan back in with kiddo 2; then later, Parent 2 would repeat the process. Both parents would not get to ride at both times, since each adult will need a FastPass reservation to ride each time. Hope this makes sense! Also, keep in mind that you do not have to use FastPass and Rider Switch together!
This has been so helpful! My husband and I are going to Disneyworld in Jan When our window to select fast passes comes, can we select 3 fast passes for each park?
Or is it just 3 passes total? We are so hoppy to hear it! When your FastPass window opens, you'll be able to book 3 total reservations in advance, per day. Once those initial three are used, you can then continue booking one at a time.
I've been trying to sort out the mechanism for why people are able to get more desirable times for their fastpass by modifying it and refreshing the app. What I want to know is, do people with a fastpass and are modifying it get priority to see new and brief openings for other fastpasses in the system before people without any fastpasses and who are trying to get one?
Or do modifiers and people without fastpasses see the exact same data and it's just a matter of timing as to what options appear? I've seen online that if you miss a fastpass return, you still have that fastpass, but why would it matter? What value does retaining a missed fastpass have over not having the fastpass at all? Our family is planning to go next year in Jan. We usually go to HS on our last day and drive back to Miami early afternoon.
It appears that Test Track will be closed when we go and there are way more rides in HS we want to ride. Does that sound better? I hope this makes sense. Any advice would be helpful. We are FL residents staying at a DW resort if that helps,. We'd definitely leave Epcot for your last day and try for Hollywood Studios FastPasses first since there's more of them. Have fun! I truly hope God blesses you for publishing this article!! Especially my family.
Thank you so very much for this we are soooo grateful!!! Sunday we were going to do Hollywood in the morning, take a break, then MK in the afternoon and the Christmas party that nite. Dad likes to see the sights and the whole Disney experience. We may do slinky dog and the smugglers run We'd suggest booking your FastPasses for Hollywood Studios, then picking up any you'd like at Magic Kingdom in the afternoon since you'll also be attending the party and can ride quite a few standby at that time.
If those type of simulation rides affect you easily, we highly suggest to be prepared with Dramamine, Seabands, or whatever your go-to is. Have a great trip! Thank you these are great. I'm after some specific info if it's out there as I'm struggling to find advice. We were thinking we go there first, then Epcot for a couple of hours, then Magic Kingdom for late afternoon. My question, after that long scene setting, is it better to book your fastpass for the morning at HS So you are able to use the extra FP's throughout the day with no guarantee of getting any for popular rides later and risk long wait times or do we book the FP's for the evening at MK before the party if we don't go to the party?
I know she really wants to do Space Mountain and so we are leaning towards gambling and use at the end of the day. A follow up question would be if we do decide to do Mickey's party in the evening, would it be better to do the FP in morning at HS and hoping MK will be quieter in the evening at the party?
You are so welcome - we're just happy you stopped by! If you do attend Very Merry, you can always modify and book the Hollywood Studios FastPasses instead, and once your initial three are used, you can then grab last-minute Magic Kingdom FastPasses until the party starts and may even get to ride some favorites more then once!
Ultimately, we'd suggest booking FastPasses in the park that has the highest priority rides for you and going from there so that you're guaranteed to fit them in : We hope this was helpful! We are getting a lot of conflicting information online. We 5 will be there on Thurs. We would also like to see Living With the Land and then spend most of our time in World Showcase pavilions.
We know that Frozen is in demand but can only choose one Tier I at a time, and would rather go from Future World to World Showcase successively since one of us has walking issues. Thank you for any help!
That plan sounds great for your party! As you mentioned, you'll need to use your three advance FastPass reservations before you can book another Tier 1, such as Frozen. Frozen FastPasses go very quickly, so be aware that you may need to wait standby for that one. You can keep an eye on wait times in the app! We plan on going to the Parks Saturday and Sunday. Most of the Fast Passes are already taken. Will being at a rope drop for any of the Parks work for us to try to get on The Dwarfs ride or Slinky - or is that fruitless because of the early access?
We would definitely rope drop! Plan to be there at least a half an hour before rope drop an hour would be the sweet spot, and you can grab some coffee while you wait , as you'll likely be able to head in a little early. While there will be more people in for early access, things have still been pretty accessible! Like you mentioned, head to the big ticket rides first.
If you use your three advance FastPass reservations, you are no longer restricted by the Tier system if you were to park hop. Have a great time! We are booking for a trip in a few days and there are few fastpass available. I would like to know if we book fastpass for late afternoon, do we have to wait that the 3 of them are used to be able to book others?
If yes, does that mean that we should book less interesting rides early morning and then book interesting rides after, or we keep or late afternoon nice passes?
That's correct; you need to use up all three of your advance FastPasses before you can book more day-of, one at a time. If you're heading into the parks early, our best advice is to group your three advance for the morning that way you can continue booking throughout the afternoon if you'd like. When you go in to book your fast passes via the my disney exp app and are booking for mulitple people 6 in my group all adults do they offer a number of fast passes for the specific ride?
Or would I have to try and get 6 individual fast passes? If I have to book individually any tips on how to do this so we are able to secure all 6 fast passes for the same time? Thanks so much! When you log in to My Disney Experience and go to add a FastPass reservation, you'll be prompted to select who in your party will be joining you - so you'll select all six members of the party. Each member of the party will need a FastPass at each experience. If you're having trouble, sometimes splitting your party up and trying for two overlapping windows in smaller parties works i.
We'd definitely start by searching for the six together and adjust from there. Can two of us have different fastpasses from the other two? Even when we are linked in one account? That's correct - even if you're all connected as "My Friends and Family," you can still hand-select your party, which means you can split off in any way you'd like! While every person is allotted 3 advance FastPasses each day, not everyone has to use them on the same ride s.
Question about fast pass tiers: Once I use up all three fast passes for the day, am I Limited to which additional fast passes I can make? For example can I continually make fast passes for slinky dog dash once I've used up the initial three?
Once you've used your initial three, there are no limitations! The tricky part is that often some of the more high-demand rides such as Slinky have less availability, as there are a limited number of FastPasses each day.
We've had a lot of luck when we refresh, as silly as it sounds! When we booked our fast passes 60 days prior, it only let us book 1 at a time. Wondering if you have heard of this before. We went 4th of July weekend. Hmm, we haven't heard of this! Did you receive an error message of any kind? Are you an Annual Passholder by chance?
Hi, I understand we can use rider switch if little one can't or doesn't want to go and can get away with only using two fast passes for the other three to ride. Can this be done the other way round, ie older one 10yr old doesn't want to go because he thinks its not thrilling or is too babyish for him, can we use two fast passes and rider switch so each adult can go with the younger one? Can't leave 10yr old on his own!
This would be the ideal way to use the fastpass. Better still, if the younger one doesnt want to go on anything Yep, this can be used both ways! Just let the ride attendant know who will and won't be riding, and they'll distribute the pass accordingly. You can see the full list of attractions offering Rider Switch here. Hi, we have a family of 4, 2 adults and 2 kids. One is tall and the other is short so if we use 2 fastpasses with rider switch, 3 of us could ride alternating with 2 fast passes if the short one is not riding.
With the other two passes which will be for one adult and the shorter one, whats the best way to use them to try and maximize everybody's experience? Since your littlest froggy won't be able to take part in a couple of the rides, we'd suggest asking them what they'd most like to ride and going from there. If there's one that's particularly in-demand or generally has a longer wait time Peter Pan's Flight, for example , we'd suggest using the remaining two FastPasses on those attractions.
Love reading this such great information. I had a quick question because I have heard varying information. We have a family of 6 and two are little. Would i be able to get rider swap for slinky dog without a fast Pass? Thanks so much - hoppy you dropped by!
You'll be able to select which members of your party you'd like to ride over the age of 3; any guests under 3 don't need a ticket, and therefore don't need a FastPass reservation. Rider Switch does not require a FastPass, either, so you'd be able to enjoy Slinky, as well.
However, your whole party will need to let the attendant know that you'd like to utilize Rider Switch at the queue. Your husband and older kiddos will then redeem their FastPasses the attendant will be able to instruct you further , while you and the other kiddos will be assigned a return time since you don't have FastPasses, leaving you to head to Toy Story Mania in the meantime.
We are traveling in November. We usually offsite, but we were going to stay a night or two at a Disney resort to get the fast passes 60 days in advance. We plan on going to the park on the 18th and 19th. This site has been so helpful. We are taking a last minute trip after finding out my husband's work conference is in DIsney. I have less than 3 weeks to plan, will spend the majority of the days with 3 kids by myself ages 5, 6, and 7. Any advice for me?
Can I just wing it or will that be a fail? How FUN for you and the tadpoles! Don't stress too much over it - we have done the exact same thing and been toadally fine.
The biggest challenge you'll find is that Disney World has an age requirement for kiddos to ride alone 14 - and we've been asked about it on vacations before! Because of this, aim for rides like the carousel, Jungle Cruise, it's a small world, Pirates of the Caribbean and meet and greets when it's just the four of you. When your husband is able to join, take advantage of Rider Switch where you can. We highly recommend doing some planning, if only when it comes to FastPasses, so that you don't have to worry about waiting in long lines with the kiddos.
You're within your booking window, so you can start planning now if you have your tickets! You can book 3 advance FastPasses for each day; once those are used up, your can start booking additional passes one by one. There are also a ton of fun experiences and shows at the parks Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom; scavenger hunts; parades; the aquarium at Epcot; dance parties; Festival of the Lion King; I could go on and on! I'd also have a Plan B if the little ones or you! This can include things like heading back for a nap, a dip in the pool, or lunch at one of the resorts or Disney Springs nothing formal; just know what your quick escape is if you need it!
An awesome resource right now is My Disney Experience ; that's where you'll book FastPasses, but also, you can see the schedule of events and add things like parades, fireworks, etc. Let us know if you have any other questions!
You can do it : Have a frogtastic time! If my husband wanted to take my 3yo daughter on 3 rides using his fast passes and I wanted to take her on 3 different rides using my fast passes, does my 3 year old then technically require 6 fast passes to accompany us? However, you can take advantage of Rider Switch so that either you or your husband can wait with the baby, then take turns riding with your other tadpole.
You can find more information on this service here. Ok, so if we have a little, could I not do my fast pass, while my husband did and still be able to rider swap? I'm a Disney-veteran, but I've never tried booking one Fastpass and then linking it to the others. How exactly does that work? It all comes together through My Disney Experience. If look under your main options when hovering over " My Disney Experience " when on desktop, you'll see the option "My Family and Friends.
Once they're connected, you can then manage FastPasses for the group within the app. Question about Child Swap.. Say there is a ride my husband and two kids want to ride, but I don't. Can we use child swap in that scenario? My husband and oldest ride the ride using Fast Pass, I am in line with a child swap pass with my youngest.
When the ride is done, my oldest gets off and my youngest gets on with my husband? I love this! Thank you so much for these charts. I have no doubt that this will be a great help in choosing and getting FP for my Sept. Yeah, have to say this is amazing. Evidently the FPP charts in the book also need to be updated.
Based on this info, I should be able to easily get it. I am wondering if they are not offering fast passes for it since it is so close to the launch of Toy Story Land? On a similar topic, any idea if a soft opening would be happening that early? Thanks, joanne! I had not seen that info. I figured it had to due with the opening of the new land. Thanks for sharing your strategy and insight! How many people were in your party?
Really great article and I have watched all your videos. I am hoping these day off Fp times hold true. Our MK day I have our first three schedule ,, so we hope to snag some more while in the park. Thanks again! I checked every day and found that there were a lot of Flight of Passages fastpasses that suddenly became available a couple of weeks before the trip.
The moral of the story is never give up — just keep checking! This is why I love TouringPlans! Thanks so much for not only including easy-to-read tables with intelligent break-downs, but for explanations that are succinct and make sense. But after reading this article, I agree with your closing comment that you can still have a great day without so much advance planning.
